SENIOR FIT IS BUILT ON FOUR PILLARS OF FITNESS
These exercises increase your breathing and heart rate and keep your heart, lungs and circulatory system healthy and fit.
It involves rhythmic aerobic activities using your large muscle groups. Examples of cardio exercises are: running, cycling, swimming, rowing and dancing.
Improving your cardio-vascular fitness makes you fit in order to carry out your everyday activities with ease.
It helps with weight control and gives you more energy.
Getting fit helps to prevent or delay many chronic diseases that are common in older adults such as diabetes, heart disease, and osteoporosis.

These exercises stretch your muscles so that your joints have more freedom of movement for other exercises as well as for your everyday activities. Stretching relaxes your muscles and increases blood flow and nutrients to your muscles. Improving your flexibility improves your posture and helps to prevent injuries.
These exercises make your muscles stronger. It is also called strength training or resistance training. It involves lifting weights or using resistance bands or machines. Some of these exercises make use of your own body weight. Getting stronger helps you stay independent and carry out your everyday activities such as climbing stairs, carrying groceries and playing with your grandchildren. Strength training can improve your bone density.

Balance exercises help to lower your risk of falling. These exercises strengthen your core muscles and help to improve your proprioception (the body’s awareness of its position in space). By improving your balance, the body can react to changes in your environment and adjust to prevent you from falling.
